Unfolding the role of a Dentist

HIV/AIDS is now increasingly being viewed not as a fatal and acute disease, but as a chronic disease that, while it cannot be cured, can be managed. The progression from HIV infection to AIDS varies considerably among individuals, it is faster and more severe in children, due to the immaturity of the immune system. Given the increasing frequency of paediatric HIV infection, all dental health care providers should familiarize themselves with the early diagnosis of pathological conditions of the oral cavity and recommend management strategies for the treatment of such children.
